All You Need to Know About Lil’ Wayne’s Tha Carter V Drop

Only an hour to spare before the legendary hip hop artist Lil Wayne drops his Tha Carter V, after he left fans feeling slightly let down when the album failed to surface last week. On Tuesday (Sep 25), Lil Wayne lifted the moods of everyone when he posted on Twitter that he would be releasing the album on Friday (at the end of his Sep 27 birthday).
He included in a three-minute video what his journey was like creating Tha Carter V and thanked the fans for hanging with him all the way through. Towards the end of the video, he posted the cover art, featuring a younger version of the artist standing next to his mother.
Lil Wayne is practically a legend in the industry, ranking alongside the earlier breakthrough music producers, with almost all of his tracks making the charts, and all albums making platinum, and his mixtapes were always worth the listen. But his creative, financial, and legal struggles with his “industry daddy” Bryan Williams lead him to lay low for a while, but he has reached a settlement, which frees him from his longtime label Cash Money, and allowing him to release this album––an album fans have waited for since 2011.
It was a treacherous journey to get to finally release this album, since he announced it in 2012, claiming that it will be his final studio album. His legacy is already pretty much built, and he’s one of those most renowned musical producer in his field, pushing limits yet hitting the charts with almost every hit. People are really anticipating that he open up as a songwriter in this album––which he gave us a sneak peek of in this previous Tha Carter IV, in “How To Love”.
One of the things Lil Wayne is greatly known for is discovering and signing Drake and Nicki Minaj to his Young Money Entertainment label, and he did play such a huge role in each of their careers to getting them to where they are. But people are hoping that their influence in this new album will be less, and really just focus on Lil Wayne as a musician and lyricist. Even though their collaborations with each other always made lethal tracks, we really hope Lil Wayne will ignore the buzz and show how he’s evolved in the songwriting realm.
Aside from the music, Lil Wayne is celebrating The Carter V with a merchandise collection to live up to its hype. He has collaborated with 14 talented designers for a limited-edition set collection that will be released over the course of 9 days. This exclusive collection is fully curated by Bravado, who has previously worked with other big names including Kanye West, Travis Scott, Justin Bieber, and more. He also found a lot of artists over on Etsy to help him achieve the unique airbrush look that he wanted.
This might just be the revival of the Young Money Empire. What do you think of the album?
