Since she released “Thank U, Next”, the song that blew up all over the world real fast and quickly became every woman’s anthem, in early November, Ariana Grande has been on fire, celebrated all over. “Thank U, Next” has even been named one of the best songs of the year by a few different publications. She credits all the pain and heartbreak she’s endured for the song, and for who she is today.
Grande has confirmed that the upcoming single, “imagine”, which she took to Twitter to announce a Thursday night release, is the title track from her next album. According to Grande herself, she says that the song won’t be as clear-eyed as “Thank U, Next”, adding that if “Thank U, Next” was the acceptance, “imagine” is the denial.
“A lot of this album mourns failed yet important, beautiful relationships in my life (as well as celebrates growth/exploring new independence,” she wrote in a draft, unsent tweet, which fans have preserved. “I look forward to you hearing it and having your own experience with it.”
