Janelle Monae is making waves in the R&B music scene with her unique take on music experience, and she is now the latest headliner to be confirmed for the Glastonbury Festival. She last played in 2011, and her performance earned a spot on one of the festival’s Top 100 performances ever.
Her return sees the highlight of her Dirty Computer album, an album that has been critically acclaimed for its celebration of sexual freedom and “black female power” against a backdrop of catchy funk-pop. The album is also up for album of the year at next month’s Grammy Awards.
She has also been making waves in the acting industry, nailing her noteworthy roles in Oscar-nominated and Oscar-winning movies Moonlight and Hidden Figures.
She will be joining fellow headliners Stormzy and Kylie Minogue, two of the biggest local acts, at this year’s festival. Monae will be following her Glastonbury performance with a huge show at the SSE Arena in Wembley in July.
