Why Everyone Is Demanding Maroon 5 to Drop Out of the Super Bowl Halftime Show

Shortly after it was revealed that Rihanna turned down the offer to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show due to her political stance against the NFL, Maroon 5 announced they will be taking her place. Consequently, a large petition has popped up on the Internet demanding that they step down, and it has already garnered 35,000 and more signatures.
The Change.org petition was started by a user named Vic Oyedeji. “Until the league changes their policy and support players’ constitutional right to protest, no artists should agree to work with the NFL,” the description reads. “Join me in asking Maroon 5 to drop out of the 2019 Super Bowl halftime show.”
“The band has a chance to stand on the right side of history,” it continues. “If they don’t, they will be remembered for choosing to side with the NFL over its players.”
Rihanna had declined the offer due to her disagreement with the NFL’s stance on Colin Kaepernick taking a knee during the National Anthem. Kaepernick had since become the face of the movement as a symbol of protest against racial injustice in America. He was exiled from the NFL shortly after, and has remained a free agent since, as no team wants to sign him.
Other fellow celebrities have also voiced out their thoughts in agreement with the demand. Amy Schumer took to Instagram to ask Maroon 5 to step down. “I personally told my reps I wouldn’t do a Super Bowl commercial this year,” she wrote on the post. “I know it must sound like a privilege ass sacrifice but it’s all I got. I know opposing the NFL is like opposing the NRA. Very tough, but don’t you want to be proud of how you’re living?”

Friday thought. I wonder why more white players aren’t kneeling. Once you witness the truly deep inequality and endless racism people of color face in our country, not to mention the police brutality and murders. Why not kneel next to your brothers? Otherwise how are you not complicit? I think it would be cool if @maroon5 backed out of super bowl like @badgalriri Did. I personally told my reps I wouldn’t do a Super Bowl commercial this year. I know it must sound like a privilege ass sacrifice but it’s all i got. Hitting the nfl with the advertisers is the only way to really hurt them. I know opposing the nfl is like opposing the nra. Very tough, but don’t you want to be proud of how you’re living? Stand up for your brothers and sisters of color. And the hottest thing a guy can do is get down on one knee. Not to propose but to reject the treatment of his teammates by this country. Anyone who says its disrespectful to our military please read up on the fact that a lot of veterans are proud of what @kaepernick7 is doing and fully support him. What are your thoughts?
There have been no comments from Maroon 5 representatives as of yet.
